UPPER DIR: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) chief Sirajul Haq has warned the federal government that if the Myanmar ambassador is not sent back from Islamabad, the party will stage a sit-in in the federal capital.

The warning came during a public gathering in Warai village of Dir district on Saturday. The JI’s provincial leadership was also in attendance, including provincial chief Mushtaq Ahmed Khan.

Haq lashed out at the West for labelling Muslims as militants and extremists, and said they had shut their eyes to the atrocities being committed against Muslims in Myanmar and Palestine.

He also criticised the role of the United Nations, stating that they had shown their true face and where their sympathies lay.

The JI chief said the party would start provincial-level protests from next week and go to Islamabad to stage a sit-in if the Myanmar ambassador is allowed to remain in the country.

He went on to criticise the role other Muslim countries on the Rohingya crisis, and urged the people in Bangladesh to provide shelter to those displaced.
