Abidi ruled out of women’s tour
Pakistan batter injured ahead of SL series.
KARACHI:
Pakistan women’s cricket team suffered a blow just a week before the Quadrangular Series in Sri Lanka as their right-arm batter and former vice-captain Nain Abidi broke her hand during a practice match in Lahore.
The 25-year-old, part of the gold-medal-winning Asian Games squad, will be replaced by Sidra Naeem.
“I was looking forward to this series that is our first international tournament since last November,” Abidi told The Express Tribune.
“This is the biggest and the most devastating injury of my career so far.”
Meanwhile, team manager Ayesha Asher termed Abidi’s injury a shock to the team given how vital a part of the team Abidi was. However, according to Asher, the selectors and coach were hopeful that Naeem would fill Abidi’s shoes effectively.
The squad will leave for Colombo on April 18 and will start their campaign against Sri Lanka on April 21.
