SC takes up plea against Imran on 12th

ISLAMABAD:  

The Supreme Court will resume hearings of constitutional petitions seeking the disqualification of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan and Secretary General Jahangir Tareen on September 12.

The court fixed the hearing of the petitions, filed by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Hanif Abbasi last year, on Thursday after a hiatus of over a month. A three-member bench, headed by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar and comprising Justice Umar Ata Bandial and Justice Faisal Arab, is hearing the case.



The petitions seek the PTI chief’s disqualification for presenting “contradictory statements about the ownership of Bani Gala land and misstating the party’s foreign funding sources”. All stakeholders in the case have been notified about the hearing, which resumes a day after the start of the new judicial year.

PTI’s attorney Naeem Bukhari has already concluded his arguments in the case. On the last date of hearing on August 3, Akram Sheikh, the counsel for the petitioner, was giving his rebuttal.
