Dengue claims sixth life this year

KARACHI: A woman died of dengue in Karachi on Monday, raising the death toll due to dengue in the city to six in the current year.

The deceased was identified as 58-year-old Naseem Khawaja, a resident of Chandni Chowk in District West. She had been suffering from high fever that eventually resulted in dengue hemorrhagic fever for the past few days. Karachi Health Director Dr Muhammad Tofique confirmed the news of her death on Tuesday.

Currently, there are as many as 887 dengue patients in Karachi, most of whom are women and children who live in the outskirts of the city.

Minister pledges to regularise anti-dengue staff

Talking to The Express Tribune, Dr Tofique advised the residents of Karachi to take precautionary measures against mosquitoes such as using mosquito nets and wearing clothes with full sleeves at night as mosquitos are breeding in the rainwater accumulated in many areas of the city.
