Committee to investigate case within seven working days
KARACHI:
The District Central deputy commissioner has formed a four-member inquiry committee to investigate the cause of death of an elderly woman due to alleged negligence by a paramedic technician in a private hospital.
The committee, which includes Additional Deputy Commissioner Sajida Ayaz Qazi, District Health Officer Dr Irshad, Gulberg Town Health Officer Dr Imdad Ali and District Municipal Corporation Central Chief Medical Officer Dr Hamid Mustafa, will investigate the circumstances that led to the elderly woman's death within seven working days.

The committee will also ascertain how a paramedic technician, Sunil Prakash, was allowed in the intensive-care unit (ICU) in a drunkard condition.
"My mother died and in the coming days someone else will die due to the negligence of the staff," said the daughter of the deceased woman while talking to The Express Tribune.
Earlier, a video surfaced on social media Sunday evening showing the alleged negligence of the paramedic staff in the ICU of Rahim Hospital in Gulberg Town Block 13 that resulted in the death of an elderly woman.

The son was seen in the video showing a bottle of liquor in the ICU and claiming that the paramedic had removed the oxygen without the permission of the family that led to the death of the patient being treated at the facility.
Later, another video surfaced on social media showing the paramedic technician being arrested on the orders of Gulberg SP Bashir Ahmed Brohi. An FIR was registered against him the same day.

The committee will also come up with recommendations for onward submission to the health department and Pakistan Medical and Dental Council for necessary action required against the hospital.
