PESHAWAR: As Peshawar gets ready to celebrate Eidul Azha, the city’s sanitation staff is gearing up for a massive cleanup operation to remove offal and animal carcasses from the streets after the ritual sacrifice.

In this regards, the Water and Sanitation Services of Peshawar (WSSP) have chalked out a special three-day cleanliness campaign for the provincial capital.

The plan was shared by WSSP Chief Executive Officer Khanzeb Khan during a news conference at the Peshawar Press Club on Thursday.

Under the plan, Khanzeb said that apart from cleaning and sanitizing the streets, during the Eid holidays, WSSP staff will continue its routine spray against the dengue virus.

He added that the WWSP has hired 287 small and large loading vehicles which will work alongside 2,065 sanitation workers in the city over Eid to keep the city clean.

The WSSP chief further said that supervisors and municipal inspectors will be supervising the entire campaign in the four towns of the Peshawar.

Moreover, Khanzeb said that Eid holidays of sanitary workers, supervisors and inspectors have been cancelled and they would remain on duty over Eid. He, however, assured that this staff would receive monetary compensation apart from their regular salaries.

The WSSP added that last year locals, clerics and elected representatives at different levels had played a vital role in ensuring that their cleanliness campaign was a success. Similarly, he was looking forward to the support and cooperation of the people and officials in cleaning the city.

Khanzeb said that in the event of any issue, people can contact the WSSP’s complaint cell and a sanitation team would respond.
