ISLAMABAD: The top regulator of medical education in the country on Wednesday urged parents and students seeking admissions to medical and dental colleges to check if their intended college was registered with the regulator.

Students who register themselves with unrecognised colleges, will not be liable to file any application with the body, read a statement issued by the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) on Wednesday.

PMDC tells medical colleges to comply with admission procedures

The medical body, the statement read, will not be responsible for any adverse impact on the careers of such students.

PMDC Acting Registrar Dr Syed Azhar Ali Shah said that students aspiring to take admissions in medical colleges can check the list of registered as well as authorised medical colleges on the PMDC’s website.

“No medical or dental institution will be allowed to grant admissions to students which are not registered with the medical body, or those who were denied admissions by the council,” he said.

Shah said that all the institutions, advertising admissions into medical and dental programmes, must follow the prescribed procedures for allocating seats.

He warned that strict action would be taken against those found violating the rules and regulations promulgated by the council.

“Medical and dental graduates, who have not registered themselves as students with PMDC, will not be recognised as legal practitioners.”

PMDC President Prof Dr Shabbir Ahmed Lehri added that in case of any complaint regarding admissions, students can contact members of the organisation through its helpline number or email address.

Moreover, a list of banned colleges and those under litigation have been posted on the PMDC website, he added.
