MULTAN:
A four-year-old child suffered temporary hearing loss after his teacher beat him black and blue in the Shujabad sub-district of Multan on Monday.

Corporal punishment: Parents demand action against teacher

Asim, the father of the child, told The Express Tribune that his son studied at a school supported by the Pakistan Education Foundation (PEF). “Teacher Muhammad Imran had beat my son Fahad for making noise in the classroom in his (teacher’s)absence.”

“I got a phone call from the school that my son fell unconscious due to extremely hot weather. I went to the school and took him to the hospital.”

Asim said there were marks of torture on his son’s face and body. When Fahad regained consciousness, he told his father that his teacher had beaten him. As a result, he suffered temporary hearing loss. “The doctor said that my son’s hearing was affected badly and it will be too early to say whether he will be able to listen again or not.”

Sindh passes law to protect children from corporal punishment

Muhammd Imran had already escaped from the school when Fahad’s father went to his son’s school to register a complaint against the teacher. When contacted, school Principal Muhammad Qasim admitted that Fahad was brutally beaten by his teacher as children were shouting and fighting in the class. However, no punishment has been given to the teacher thus far.
