MARDAN:
Police in Mardan registered a case against the district nazim for allegedly manhandling an on-duty physician at the Mardan Medical Complex on Monday.
The district police officer lodged an FIR against Himayat Ullah Mayar on the request of Dr Shakeel Ahmed, who submitted an application after consulting the medical superintendent and other high-ranking officials of the medical facility.
According to the contents of the FIR, the district nazim allegedly threatened to kill the doctor, forced him to the ward and kept him under wrongful confinement for a prolonged time.
Mardan nazim, naib nazim suspended for 30 days
In a letter addressed to the DPO, the hospital’s administration warned that if the police failed to take any action against the nazim, the entire medical staff would go on strike, closing all necessary services to patients.
The FIR was registered in the City Police Station under sections 198, 506, 500 and 186 of the PPC. Earlier, the hospital’s doctors association staged a protest outside the district press club and chanted slogans against the district nazim.
Meanwhile, talking to The Express Tribune, Mayar denied any wrongdoing. “I am authorized by the local government act to provide and ensure every facility to the public of my district I haven’t done anything illegal,” he upheld. “If I have facilitated a dying patient in the hospital by ensuring him a doctor by force as he refused to entertain him early, I have done it and will continue to do in future.”
