‘Women play key role in country’s development’  

MCCI convener stressed the need for preparation of syllabus for unskilled women

MULTAN: Women entrepreneurs play a significant role in the socio-economic development of under-developed countries.

Women represent around 48% of Pakistan’s total population, while female employment participation is only 19% to 20%. This was said by Multan Chamber of Commerce & Industry (MCCI) Convener Mian Mughis A Sheikh on Sunday. He said as per labour force survey of Pakistan, the contribution of female labour in agriculture is around 13.4% and only 6% are engaged in non-agriculture sector.

He added, “This shows a significant potential for women empowerment and engagement in various sectors such as light manufacturing i.e. garments, leather products, home textiles, services, etc.” He stressed the need for preparation of syllabus for unskilled women.
