LAHORE:
Punjab Inspector General of Police Captain (retd) Arif Nawaz has directed police officials to set up pickets near permanent and temporary sacrificial animal markets across the province to protect citizens from swindlers and looters.

He was speaking at a meeting held at the Central Police Office to devise a security plan for Eidul Azha on Saturday.

Senior police officers, including RPOs and DPOSs also attended the meeting.

Nawaz directed the officers to make special parking arrangements at all the main congregations of Eidul Azha across the province and deploy policemen and Razakars for security. The IGP also directed officers to take stern action against those involved in aerial firing and display of arms. He added that such acts would not be tolerated.

He directed officers to clamp down on those involved in producing and selling tainted liquor, besides conducting organised raids to round up proclaimed offenders.

The officers have been directed to only allow those organisations which had received approval from the government to collect hides.

“The RPOs and DPOs should take immediate action against defunct organisations involved in hide collection,” he added.

The RPOs and DPOs should pay attention to security of recreational places and parks as a large number of people thronged to such places on Eidul Azha, he said. The IGP asked district and traffic policemen to set up joint teams and launch a massive crackdown against those performing wheelies.
