Two killed as factory roof caves in

Workers say the structure of the building was in a dilapidated state

LAHORE: In another tragic incident, two labourers died when the roof of factory collapsed near Outfall Road on Friday.

Both the victims were teenagers and residents of Sanda, Lahore. The factory is situated a few hundred metres away from the spot where a blast had occurred in the recent past. The incident took place in the noon when workers were busy in a tin-making factory situated near Taj Company.

Suddenly, the roof of a room caved in. As a result, several labourers were trapped under the debris. A worker said he was at work when his department jolted with a huge bang, followed by screams. There was dust all around and workers ran to save their lives in panic and chaos. Few of them ran to rescue their colleagues and called rescue teams.

The teams reached the spot and removed the debris and shifted the injured to a nearby hospital for treatment where doctors pronounced two of the injured as dead on arrival. The deceased were identified as Hamza and Falak Sher.

Factory was in a dilapidated condition

The building structure where the incident occurred was in a dilapidated condition. It was a single story building which was divided into rooms and halls with different units (departments) of the factory were established. Workers of the factory said a recent blast had also affected the construction and they had complained about it to the factory owners.
