PPP forms body to tackle 'foreign challenges'

Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has formed the foreign relations committee to "frame national responses to present and upcoming challenges".
The committee will be convened by former Pakistani ambassador to the United States Sherry Rehman, and a notification in this regard has been issued by the chairman's secretariat.
"The PPP has always had the most robust and clear foreign policy for Pakistan. From Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto to Benazir Bhutto and President Zardari's government to today, the PPP has clear views on policy, and we have articulated the best interests of Pakistan, both at home and abroad," Rehman told The Express Tribune on Friday.

"From nuclear deterrence to missile capability, and making the China opportunity real via giving Gwadar Port handling to the Peoples Republic, the party has taken seminal initiatives for safeguarding the borders, integrity and sovereignty of Pakistan," the former Senator claimed. "The FRC is an important committee of the party and I look forward to working with the leadership and my colleagues on framing national responses to present and upcoming challenges."
Other members in the committee include Saleem Mandviwala, Senator Farhatullah Babar, Faisal Karim Kundi, Palwasha Khan and former foreign minister Hina Rabbani Khar, among others.
Rehman, a former journalist, was appointed as the ambassador to US after Husain Haqqani resigned in the wake of the Memogate scandal. She stepped down from the post in May 2013.
