Judges’ detention case: ‘Police not serious’
ATC directs investigation officer, complainant, witness to appear on September 11
ISLAMABAD:
A prosecutor has told an anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Thursday that the police were not seriously probing the judges’ detention case with nine investigation officers changed so far and a final charge sheet has yet to be submitted.
Special Public Prosecutor Aamir Nadeem Tabish told ATC Judge Shahrukh Arjumand that the police have allegedly shown non-serious attitude in the case.
The prosecutor added that he has contacted investigators several times and had asked for the police file of the case but had yet to receive a positive response.
Moreover, Tabish said that the final charge sheet has yet to be submitted.
Subsequently, the court issued the summons for the complainant Chaudhry Aslam Ghumman, a witness, Inamur Rahiem advocate, and the current investigation officer of the case Mubarak Ali to appear before the court on September 11.
Previously, the high-profile accused – former president General (retired) Pervez Musharraf – standing trial in the case had sought extraordinary security and special treatment for his appearance before the ATC.
The former dictator had demanded security from the Ministry of Defence while expressing his lack of trust in the civilian security agencies.
While expressing his intent to return to Pakistan, Musharraf had set different conditions, including tight security and permission to travel back to his temporary residence in Dubai without being arrested, for appearing before the ATC.
Earlier, Musharraf had requested the ATC to direct the concerned authorities to provide him with tight security for his appearance in the court, but now he has specifically sought security from the defence ministry.
Previously, the ATC had ordered the Inspector General of Police and the Interior Ministry secretary to make arrangements for providing security to the former president in order to ensure his presence in the court on February 9.
