This came on Monday during a meeting of the PML-N’s parliamentary party, chaired by Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi in his capacity as Leader of the House in the National Assembly.
According to a PML-N statement, the parliamentary party, comprising National Assembly members and Senators, paid ‘rich tributes’ to the leadership and policies of Sharif, the former PM.
PM Abbasi appoints five advisers
The meeting adopted a resolution, reading that the PML-N is the largest political party of the country which steered Pakistan out of economic and financial crises; it tackled power outages and terrorism and put the country on the path of economic prosperity, peace and stability.
The resolution says that through the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, a bright future for the country is ensured.
“The challenges faced by the country can be countered through strengthening democracy, rule of law and respect for the public mandate. In the past, Pakistan has a paid a huge price of neglecting these principles,” it adds.
The parliamentary party vowed to uphold supremacy of the Constitution and expressed determination to “get massive success in the next elections on the basis of its performance and public service”.
Abbasi says govt not on warpath with institutions
This was the first parliamentary party meeting chaired by Abbasi. The last meeting was held on July 29 – a day after Sharif was disqualified by the Supreme Court as prime minister in the Panamagate case.
Since Sharif can no longer head a party meeting under the Political Parties Order 2002, the July 29 meeting was chaired by PML-N Chairman Raja Zafarul Haq.
However, for all practical purposes, the meeting was led by Sharif during which Abbasi was nominated as PM.
