HYDERABAD: A high tension 11,000-kilovolt electricity wire fell on the people in a fish market in Hyderabad on Sunday, killing two persons and injuring five others.

The Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (Hesco), which has been held responsible for the incident in a police complaint filed by family of the deceased persons, has itself blamed a driver of a mini truck for the incident in its initial complaint lodged with Hali Road police.

The deceased, Raja Mallah and Allah Dino Mallah, and the injured, Sono Khan Mallah, Dost Ali Mallah, Sharif Khan Mallah, Akbar Mallah and Hamzo Mallah, were involved in the trade of fish. They all belonged to Haji Rustam Mallah village in Jamshoro district.

Three of a family electrocuted

Some eyewitnesses told the police that the deceased and injured persons were pushing the truck when the wire fell over the vehicle, electrocuting them. Hali Road police arrested the driver, Umeed Ali, a resident of Sukkur, and impounded the vehicle. However, an FIR is yet to be registered.

In their complaint for registration of FIR, Hesco Sub-Divisional Officer Zuhaib and Line Superintendent Shujauddin claimed that the truck driver parked his vehicle in a no-parking zone on Saturday night. The next day when he tried to start the vehicle the ignition did not work owing to which he called others to push the vehicle. Hesco officials claimed that a metal bar in the truck struck against the wire. Meanwhile, the complaint filed by Fazal Mallah on behalf of the deceased, accused Hesco for the incident.
