Doctor’s strike: PM promises improved pay packets
The government will bring necessary amendments to laws in order to regularise doctors.
ISLAMABAD:
The government will bring necessary amendments to laws in order to regularise doctors on contract and increase their salaries, Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani said on Tuesday.
“I have approved the doctors’ demands for which they have been fighting for 66 years,” Gilani told journalists after a meeting with doctors and paramedic staff of the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS).
The doctors had been demanding special service structure, an increase in salaries and regularisation of contracts. In order to press their demands, doctors of government hospitals held strikes last month resulting in more than 30 deaths.
Gilani said the proposed new package will ensure job security for doctors and provide them better facilities.
