K-E restores power to Safari Park, Bagh Ibne Qasim
After KMC intervention, power cut due to bill defaulters restored
KARACHI:
K-Electric (K-E) disconnected on Friday power supply to its defaulters in various areas of the city including Safari Park, Bagh Ibne Qasim, slaughterhouse and Liaquatabad Supermarket for not responding to the final notices served to them a week ago.
The administration of Safari Park, despite receiving several notices, did not pay its outstanding dues of Rs33 million, which resulted in suspension of power supply to the park.
The high court has directed all the institutes to pay their outstanding dues, said K-Electric Communication Director Sadia Dada. She remarked that bearers of 15 connections, which had accumulated dues of Rs300 million to the power utility company, did not respond despite receiving several notices, forcing K-E to cut off their power supply.
Major power breakdown hits Karachi again
Bagh Ibne Qasim has to pay dues of Rs95 million, while slaughterhouse has accumulated payables to the tune of Rs6.9 million, Dada said, adding that Liaquatabad Supermarket owes Rs15.9 million to K-E.
However, power to these sites was restored within a few hours after disconnection reportedly after the intervention of the officials of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC).
According to Dada, the K-Electric teams were also set to disconnect the power connection of the Karachi Zoo, which has outstanding dues of Rs61 million, but the representatives of KMC approached the K-E to hold talks on the matter.
Prolonged power outages in sweltering heat tests patience of faithful
Despite several attempts to reach them, the KMC officials were not available to comment on the matter.
