I was born to play Sanjay Dutt: Ranbir Kapoor
Bollywood’s ‘Rockstar’ discusses upcoming biopic and his equation with the Munna Bhai star
After working with Karan Johar in Ae Dil Hai Mushkil last year, Ranbir has an interesting line-up of films with brilliant film-makers. He is slated to work with Ayan Mukerji in Dragon and with Rajkumar Hirani in Dutt. Dutt is a biopic on Bollywood megastar Sanjay Dutt and Ranbir plays the lead in the film, reported Pinkvilla.
Ranbir to recreate 'Khalnayak hoon mae' in Sanjay Dutt biopic
Sharing his views about the film, the Jagga Jasoos star said, “Sanju Sir has been closely attached to the film. He has come on set and has been amazingly supportive. It used to be surreal for me because I am acting like him. He used to sit in front of the monitor and see some scenes and be so happy. He’s like an overgrown child, who gives love to people. I feel like I was born to play this part.”
Ranbir revealed he has always been a big fan of Sanjay – so much so, that he has a picture of him on his cupboard. “To play Sanjay is surreal. Getting a physical look right is easy. To get somebody’s soul right, the human being right – that’s the hard part. I hope I’ve done a good job,” he added.
The Dutt biopic will release in March 2018 and it stars Ranbir, Manisha Koirala, Sonam Kapoor, Anushka Sharma, Dia Mirza and Vicky Kaushal. “I’m grateful for this film and I am working hard on it. I hope that people understand this man’s life, his soul through my work,” said Ranbir.
However, the more exciting news that has been making rounds recently is that B-town beauty Tabu will be seen making a cameo in the movie and she will be playing herself in the biopic. "Tabu will be seen presenting an award for the best actor in a comic role to Ranbir, who plays Dutt in the movie. In real life too, Sanjay had won the same award for Munna Bhai MBBS in 2004 and Tabu had presented the trophy to him back then. The same scene has been recreated for the film,” revealed an insider.
I’d make a film only for Katrina: Ranbir Kapoor
Reportedly, Tabu will be seen donning the same peach-coloured shalwar kameez and red dupatta that she had worn in 2004 when she had presented the award to Dutt. "In fact, Tabu and Hirani got chatting and had lots to share from the past. Tabu also got nostalgic about how thrilled Dutt was with his win back then,” added the source. Dutt and Tabu, who acted together in the 2006 film Sarhad Paar have always been good friends.
Meanwhile, Tabu will next be seen in Golmaal Again. Directed by Rohit Shetty, Golmaal Again also stars Ajay Devgn, Parineeti Chopra, Arshad Warsi, Tusshar Kapoor, Kunal Kemmu and Shreyas Talpade. The movie is scheduled for a Christmas 2017 release.
