Do your jobs properly: deputy speaker warns
Deputy speaker of the GBLA expresses displeasure over the treasury’s unsatisfactory response to questions.
GILGIT:
The deputy speaker of the Gilgit-Baltistan Legeslative Assembly (GBLA) expressed displeasure over the treasury’s unsatisfactory response to questions raised by legislators in Tuesday’s session.
He later warned them to give proper answers or be prepared to face action under the House’s Rules of Procedure.
“You should not take this matter lightly,” said Deputy Speaker Jamil Ahmed, who was conducting the session in the absence of Speaker Wazir Baig.
He said that legislators have the right to know the truth about the treasury’s handling of their responsibilities. The chair also asked the parliamentary secretaries to properly perform their duties.
Mirza Hussain, a PML-Q member, earlier complained that the ministers were not taking assembly proceedings seriously, adding that the inquiry into allegations of embezzlement in the Zakat
fund had also been put off because of ‘influentials’ who got the inquiry officer transferred.
The legislator also drew the attention of the house to a land dispute in Gilgit, saying that the police are helpless before the land mafia.
