Poet and Intellectual: Condolence over demise of Dr Sabir Aafaqi

Heads of literary organisations express deep grief over the death of renowned poet.

ISLAMABAD:
The heads of literary organisations on Tuesday expressed deep grief over the death of renowned poet, intellectual and educationist Professor Dr Sabir Aafaqi.

In a condolence message, Chairman Pakistan Academy of Letters(PAL) Fakhar Zaman said Dr Aafaqi had strong command over various languages including Urdu, Persian, Punjabi, Kashmiri and Gojari and wrote more than fifty books on research topics.


He also wrote over a hundred research articles for prominent national and international magazines. Chairman National Language Authority (NLA) Iftikhar Arif termed the death of Sabir Aafaqi a great loss for the country.

Dr Aafaqi held a doctorate degree in Persian language and literature from Tehran University and served as a professor in Azad Kashmir University. After retirement, he devoted his life to the promotion of Urdu and Kashmiri language.
