Exhibition hopes to teach youth a thing or two

Exhibition covers the period from the Lahore Resolution to Pakistan's creation and the immediate aftermath

LAHORE: To commemorate 70 years of independence of Pakistan, the Information Technology University (ITU) has curated a month-long exhibition.

ITU Vice Chancellor Dr Umar Saif opened the exhibition to commemorate 70 years of Pakistan's independence at the Arfa Software Technology Park. It was curated by the Centre for Governance and Policy ITU on Thursday.



The exhibition will remain open for one month till September 14 and it covers the period from the Lahore Resolution in 1940 to Pakistan's creation and the immediate aftermath.

In his address on the occasion, Dr Umar Saif said there was a need to raise awareness among the youth over the ideology of Pakistan and the untiring struggle of elders who scarified their lives, families and belongings to achieve the milestone of an independent homeland for the people.

“It is now the foremost duty of the youth to adopt modern technology to make Pakistan a developed country,” he added.

The exhibit also shows the development of Pakistan's map, from the accession of the princely states, the loss of Junagadh State and then the Fall of Dhaka in 1971.

The pictorial exhibition reminds people to cherish the independence, preserve national unity and diversity. A large number of students from various educational institutions are scheduled to witness the exhibition.

Independent Day celebrations at UMT

University of Management and Technology (UMT) Lahore celebrated Pakistan’s 70th Independence Day with traditional enthusiasm and passion at its Johar Town Campus.

UMT Rector Dr Muhammad Aslam, along with Director General Abid HK Shirwani, hoisted the national flag early in the morning.

The most important segment of celebrations was the Azadi Festival, which the university management organised in the evening.



Thousands of students and their parents, faculty members, families and the general public gathered on the varsity ground embellished with exotic foods stalls, shopping booths, kids’ corner, fireworks, games and many more things that attracted them to chant slogans of Long Live Pakistan. Speech and quiz competitions, games and dressing shows, poetry and national songs contests were also held to amuse the audiences.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Aslam said Pakistan was a great and unique gift from Almighty Allah to pay thanks to Him and remember the sacrifices of our elders.

He said the impact factor for the Pakistan’s development was education and research so we must focus on this factor to place the country in the direction of well-developed and civilised nations of the world.

Expressing his views, UMT Director and the chief organiser of Azadi Festival Ibrahim Hasan Murad said UMT intended to infuse a sense of national pride and patriotism in students.
