Young doctors' demands finally met by government

New scale-structures for young doctors have been approved along with the regularization of contract employees.

ISLAMABAD:
The Federal Government agreed on Tuesday to increase the annual health budget by 1.3 billion rupees in the next fiscal-year that starts July 1.

Young doctors of Poly-clinic, PIMS have called off their strike following the increase in the health budget.


Earlier, Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani told media sources that a committee would be formed to improve service structure of health practitioners.

He added that the committee is now due to submit its report within 15 days.

The prime minister also confirmed that doctors not doing private practice will be given heavy allowances.

More than three-thousand-five-hundred senior and young doctors of federal government hospitals are likely to benefit from the increase in the budget.
