RAWALPINDI:
A French national of Pakistani origin was gunned down on Monday over a marriage dispute in Harer village of Gujar Khan.

The deceased was identified as Aftab Hussain Tabi, the police said. Police moved the body to Tehsil Headquarters (THQ) Hospital for autopsy.

According to police, Aftab Hussain contracted love marriage with daughter of a local politician Shaukat Wasifi some six months ago.

The marriage triggered tension between two families and later a jirga was held in which it was decided that the girl would go back to her parents’ house.

Aftab was sent back to France after the settlement was made in the jirga. The man returned to Pakistan today (Monday) and went to his wife’s house to take her back to his home.

However, an exchange of harsh words occurred between Aftab and the parents of the girl as a result of which he was gunned down on the spot by his in-laws. The police were yet to determine who actually shot Aftab dead.

A police party headed by SHO PS Gujar Khan Nadim Zafar rushed to the crime scene and shifted the dead body to THQ for autopsy.

The SHO said Aftab was already married with four kids. He said the deceased contracted second marriage with daughter of Wasifi against the will of her parents.

The father in law happens to be a local leader of PML-N and chairman UC Changa Baghyal.
