Hydel Power: ‘Investment key to solving power woes’
upgradation of Karakoram highway is in its final stage
GILGIT:
Governor Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B) Pir Karam Ali Shah said that acute problems of power generation could well be solved in the country if the government makes headway in constructing hydro power projects and dams in the province.
Speaking at a seminar on Monday, Shah said G-B is enriched with natural resources and if they are tapped properly, 50,000 megawatts of electricity could be produced to meet the shortfall. Laying emphasis on Pak-China relations, the governor said that a close relationship between the two neighbours is in the best interest of both, and that the government is doing everything to strengthen ties.
He also said the upgradation of Karakoram highway is in its final stage and with its completion, G-B will become the economic hub of the country as the trade route would financially stabilise the region and the country.
