PESHAWAR:
Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa former minister for minerals development has accused Chief Minister Pervez Khattak of horse-trading and demanded his disqualification.

Ziaullah Afridi submitted an adjournment motion in the K-P Assembly Secretariat on Monday in reaction to a statement by the chief minister on Sunday in which he had stated that his government had support of 75 members in the assembly.

Afridi called the statement “horse-trading” and demanded that the Election Commission of Pakistan and the judiciary take notice of it and disqualify him.

The K-P chief minister secretariat had issued a statement on Sunday in which Khattak said that the provincial government had support of 75 members in the assembly, who belonged to both the opposition and the government’s parties.

Khattak proudly claimed in the statement that he had a history of making and toppling governments.

He refuted the news regarding any threats to his government and called it “propaganda of his political opponents”.

In the adjournment motion, Afridi stated, “Chief Minister Pervez Khattak has confessed to horse-trading which means sale and purchase of assembly members.”

He said that the actual strength of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Jamaat-e-Islami and independent members was 68 in the assembly, while the chief minister claimed that he had the support of 75 members.

“This proves sale and purchase of assembly members and Khattak has done this [buying elected members] in the past and admitted it [in the statement],” the motion read.

Afridi asked for the disclosure of names of the assembly members who sold their loyalty.

He has also asked PTI Chairman Imran Khan to clear his position as to whether he supported Khattak or not.

In July 2015, the K-P Ehtesab Commission had arrested Afridi when he was the provincial minister for minerals development.

Afridi had been arrested for misusing his authority and violating the ban on issuance of tenders.
