ISLAMABAD:
With Eidul Azha around the corner, many makeshift cattle markets have sprouted in different parts of the capital city.

Many traders belonging to far-flung areas of the country have setup stalls across Islamabad, while others have taken their animals to the government-approved cattle markets. Every year a large number of cattle sellers, mainly from Punjab and upper Sindh, come to Islamabad ahead of Eidul Azha.

Within the markets, a separate section for expensive animals has been made which is the main attraction for children. However, many of those coming to purchase sacrificial animals complained that prices have been kept too high this year.

The cattle owners have decorated their animals with colourful ornaments to attract the buyers, said Saif Ur Rehman, a cattle trader. “We cannot predict whether more animals would be brought to the market this year or not,” another trader said.

Hassan Javed, a buyer looking to purchase an animal, said: “My children forced me to buy an animal soon so they could spend time with it.”

Meanwhile, officials of the Directorate of Municipal Administration, Enforcement and Environment Wing of Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI) and Capital Development Authority have been directed to ensure that no illegal cattle market is allowed to operate in the city, except those approved by the capital administration.
