KARACHI: A political worker was killed during an alleged encounter with the police on Sunday. Police officials claimed that the deceased was affiliated with Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) - London and had been involved in over three dozen cases of crimes including targeted killings.
The encounter took place near Saddam Chowk in Saeedabad area of Baldia Town when officials and personnel of the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) raided the area on a tip off. CTD SSP Munir Shaikh said that the encounter took place when the suspects opened fired at the CTD personnel and attempted to escape, adding that the police fired back and killed one suspect during the brief encounter. The suspect’s companion managed to escape the scene. Officials recovered weapons from his possession and the body was later shifted to the Edhi Morgue in Sohrab Goth after medico legal formalities were completed at Civil hospital.

The suspect was later identified as Imran alias Funter who was a resident of Korangi. CTD officials claimed that deceased was associated with the Korangi sector of MQM-London and was a close aide of notorious target killer Raees Mamma. Officials also claimed that deceased had also been involved in over a dozen cases of crime, including targeted killings of law enforcers, extortion and robberies. The cases were registered, while further investigation was under way. The body of the suspect was later handed over to the family for burial process.
Imran’s family and the party strongly condemned his killing and termed it a fake encounter. His family said that he was killed in a fake encounter demanded the authorities concerned conduct an inquiry.
