ISLAMABAD:
As rains lashed the region, the G-B Chief Minister Hafeezur Rehman on Saturday directed the Gilgit-Baltistan Disaster Management Authority to expedite relief activities in flood affected areas.

According to Radio Pakistan, he has also directed all concerned departments to provide relief and food items to those affected, apart from the restoration of roads and power supply.

The Gilgit Baltistan Disaster Management Authority (GBDMA) has also established a control room in Gilgit to monitor the situation. Earlier this week, the Shamshal road in the Hunza district of Gilgit-Baltistan was blocked at various locations due to landsliding and downstream flow of water.

The local administration worked to clear the road. So far, as many as 98 people have died in the monsoon rains across the country with the most deaths coming in Punjab where as many as 30 people have died, the NDMA said.

Balochistan reported the second most number of deaths at 26. As many as 131 people have also been injured in rain related incidents across the country while 286 houses have been damaged.
