KARACHI:
Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) President Shamim Ahmed Firpo has emphasised that he considers industrial exhibitions in Karachi vital for economic growth and industrial development in the city and the country at large.

He stated this while inaugurating the 8th edition of the Industrial Electronic and Electrical Engineering Exhibition of Pakistan (IEEEP Fair 2017) at the Karachi Expo Centre on Tuesday.

“The positive impact of Pakistan’s geographical location is now being fully realised through CPEC (China-Pakistan Economic Corridor) projects, which are being referred to as game changers for the regional and global economy,” Firpo said.

“Against this backdrop, frequent organisation of such fairs will augment prosperity of other sectors of the economy,” he added.

“The impact of such fairs can be gauged through the burgeoning hotel industry in Karachi since a number of foreign and local companies are participating frequently in the exhibitions.”

The Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers of Pakistan (Karachi Centre) is organising the IEEEP from August 1 to 3.

Around 350 stalls have been set up by more than 250 national and foreign companies, occupying four halls of the expo centre. Around 40 foreign delegates from 15 countries are also participating in the event.

“These fairs not only produce employment opportunities, but also create awareness of new electronic goods in the market,” said FPCCI Fair and Exhibition Committee Chairman Hanif Gohar.

Pakistan Council of Renewable Energy Technologies Director General Dr Baqar Raza underscored the need for utilising Pakistan’s natural resources to overcome energy shortages and boost industrial production.

“Pakistan has gained a lot of attention in power generation, electrical, industrial automation and renewable/alternative energy systems and markets,” Baqar said.

IEEEP Chairman Asif Siddiqui said Pakistan had developed a strong manufacturing base for the electronics and allied sectors and its projection and promotion through the exhibition would bode well for the emerging industry as well as expand its volumes locally and internationally.

He added that being the country’s premier electrical and electronics industrial exhibition, it had local and international representation and covered latest advances in electrical, electronics and other related industries.
