Lahore railway station: Steam engine runs for anniversary

Pakistan Railways (PR) ran a steam engine train to Wagha Railway Station on Saturday to mark 149 years since Lahore Railways Station was built. Some 200 students of the Lady Griffin School, which is owned by PR, joined Railways officials on the one-off journey.
“The train was run with a steam engine as 149 years ago, they were the only engines available,” said a PR spokesman. He said that there were no other events planned and admitted the train journey was finalised at the last minute.
“I did not even know about it last night,” he said. The official said that they would celebrate the 150th anniversary of Railways in the region on May 14, but it would be a subdued celebration because of the financial crunch the organisation is in.
