You no longer need bold and basic colours to look glamorous on Eid

Keeping in mind the sweltering heat in Pakistan these days, clothing brands have launched an impressive mélange of pastel colours. Bold and bright clothes that bore a resemblance to truck art are passé now. Ice cream inspired colours like vanilla, milky white, pistachio green, creamy orange and light lemon have an intrinsic feminine quality to them. Here are a few tips you must follow to get the romantic and ethereal aura this Eid rather than ending up with a washed out look in all neutrals.

1. Fabric feast

This is the most important step since everything that follows will be according to the fabric. Since the colours are muted, they look dull in certain fabrics. This is the reason you should limit your pastels in lawn and cotton to casual wear. Experiment with organza, silk and chiffon for this occasion.

2. Making the cut

Now that we've picked our fabric, let’s pick a pattern. Ask your tailor to decorate the hem of your kameez, the trouser or the sleeves with pearls or a transparent swath of cloth to add a tinge of sophistication. You can also get a brooch stitched on the shirt with a suspending necklace like chain fastened to both shoulders. Although it is a good idea to pick up floral and embroidered fabrics to add a dash of colour, you must be wary of overly embroidered cringe worthy suits. I mean why would you want to wear a kundan work kameez with zari trouser on an event that isn't a wedding?

3. A flair for flare

You should give more thought to the cut of your dress than you usually do. Flared sleeves, frock-like shirt with bell bottoms may not necessarily suit you. Do not go overboard with the flare. If you opt for ghaghra pants that flare from the knee down, cut down on the length of the kameez. However, if the pant starts as a cigarette pant and then flares into a gharara at the ankles, then you can be slightly more liberal with the shirt length. Put in cuts here and there to break the monotony in the outfit. Off shoulder and cold-shoulders are in vogue these days.

4. Kylie or Kardashian? Confusing K's

Light summery floral designs work quite well with peachy complexion. Everybody wants to perfect Kylie Jenner's radiant look as opposed to Kim Kardashian's sculpted face. You should create the sun-kissed effect with your highlighter to match the commonly found cream and golden pastel hues. But highlighting is an art; you must understand that you want the luminous look, not the shimmery glitter like effect. Let your lips and eyes speak up for your toned down outfit.

5. Art of accessorizing

The last step is even more crucial than the first one, for your accessories is the final touch that adds coherence to the look. Matching minimal jewellery and inconspicuous flat sandals with pastels speaks volumes about your abysmal fashion sense.  Wear simple, long earrings that touch your shoulders to add a few inches to your figure.

On this day, do not choose comfort over style. No matter how small they are, wear heels to add a finishing touch to your look. Carry a clutch or structured purse, and not your handbag. And match your heels to the colour of the embroidery rather than the base fabric.

Most important of all is to enjoy dressing yourself up. So pick out a style catalog and start cracking -- there isn't much time left!

Have a happy Eid!
