Two Years On: I-11 slum evictees demand justice
Activists gathered at the Islamabad fruit and vegetable market on Monday
ISLAMABAD:
People who were evicted from the slum in Sector I-11 have demanded justice for their destroyed homes and businesses. Evictees, members of the Awami Workers Party (AWP) and activists gathered at the Islamabad fruit and vegetable market on Monday, to mark the second anniversary of the operation with a protest. AWP’s union council member from Sector I-11 Syed Habib Shah pointed out that the slum was razed despite a moratorium on demolishing slums without prior resettlement under the National Housing Policy 2001.
