CJP asked to nominate SC judge for implementation of Panama verdict

Accountability court shall proceed with and decide references within a period of six months: final order

The top court's bench hearing the Panama Papers case has asked the Chief Justice of Pakistan to nominate a judge to monitor implementation of the judgement and oversee proceedings by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

In its landmark verdict on Friday, the apex court disqualified Nawaz Sharif as Prime Minister and directed filing of NAB references against him, his children and son-in law.

"CJP Saqib Nisar is requested to nominate a judge to supervise and monitor implementation of this judgment in letter and spirit and oversee the proceedings conducted by NAB," read the final order.

• NAB to file reference against Nawaz Sharif, his three children — Maryam, Hassan and Hussain — and son-in-law Captain (retd) Muhammad Safdar relating to the Avenfield properties in London, United Kingdom, within the next six weeks.

• Reference be filed against Nawaz Sharif, Hussain and Hassan regarding Azizia Steel Company and Hill Metal Establishment.

• Reference be filed against Finance Minister Ishaq Dar for possessing assets and funds beyond his known sources of income.

• The accountability court shall proceed with and decide the aforesaid references within a period of six months.

• The Election Commission of Pakistan shall issue a notification, disqualifying Nawaz Sharif from being a member of the Parliament with immediate effect.

• President Mamnoon Hussain is required to take all necessary steps under the Constitution to ensure continuation of the democratic process.
