ISLAMABAD: Like the provinces, the Ministry of Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD) in the capital needs to form a Federal Implementation Watch Committee, to facilitate and monitor the implementation of workplace harassment Act.

These views were expressed by participants at a review and reflection meeting on the implementation of the workplace harassment law organised by Mehargar, a centre for learning. Around 20 representatives of over 13 organisations, including public, private and civil society, participated in the meeting to discuss their experiences.

They stated that since harassment cases were handled in confidentiality, most people did know about them and felt that the law was not being implemented.

They noted that similar Committees were operating in the Punjab, Sindh and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa are performing with varied success. With this committee notified in the capital, it can become a model for the rest of the country.

Maliha Husain, the executive director of Mehergarh, said that it was encouraging to see senior public officials, private sector representatives, educational institutions and civil society sitting together to share their experiences of implementing the workplace harassment law.
