Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb on Tuesday assured Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi of his full support for the resolution of all "legitimate issues" the provincial government was facing.

The development came following a high-level consultative session a day ago at the Aiwan-e-Sadr, chaired by President Asif Ali Zardari and attended by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and all four provincial chief ministers. The meeting decided against imposing a nationwide smart lockdown, following global fuel supply disruptions caused by the ongoing war in the Middle East.

In today's meeting held at the Finance Division, CM Afridi apprised the finance minister of various economic and financial issues being faced by the province.

"The finance minister assured the chief minister of his full support for the resolution of all legitimate issues and reaffirmed the federal government’s commitment to facilitating provincial governments in addressing their financial challenges," the finance ministry said.

It added that the meeting was held in a cordial and constructive atmosphere.

Last month, the federal and K-P governments mended their differences over the release of funds for merged districts, but remained at odds over the provision of an additional Rs15 billion sought by the provincial authorities for temporarily displaced persons.

In a bid to bridge differences over the release of non-National Finance Commission funds, CM Afridi had met PM Shehbaz.
