Central Asian University to be set up at COMSATS

Classes have been scheduled to begin from September 2018

ISLAMABAD: The Higher Education Commission (HEC) decided to set up the University of Central Asia Pakistan (UCAP) to provide higher education to students of Central Asian states.

With classes scheduled to begin from September 2018, the varsity would be temporarily housed in the building of COMSATs Institute.

Officials said that the project is expected to be completed for Rs2.84 billion of which Rs600 million had been allocated in the 2016-17 budget while Rs500 million was allocated in the current fiscal year. The money would help set up the basic structure of the university with the HEC expected to take a decision on allocating land for the project next month.

The UCAP university, being established in Islamabad, would initially offer business and leadership programmes. In this regard, the process for induction of university's faculty and other staff has been started. The HEC official said that while the slot for the head of the university and faculty is open for scholars from around the world, the commission would prefer those who have studied abroad while no preferred quota has been allocated for Central Asian states.
