Five lawyers and five litigants were killed in the fire last year.
KARACHI:
Lawyers marked Saturday as a black day to remember the Tahir Plaza fire in which five lawyers and five litigants were killed on April 09, 2009.
About 200 young men had attacked the plaza with inflammable material. On Saturday, lawyers stayed away from court because of which many hearings were adjourned.
A general body meeting of the Karachi Bar Association was held at the Shuhda-e-Punjab Hall where those who lost their lives in the struggle during the lawyers’ movement were remembered. Lawyers boycotted courts in Hyderabad as well.
The National Lawyers Forum and the District Bar Association held a gathering where they asked the Supreme Court to take suo motu notice to provide justice to the bereaved families.
