Police, Rangers arrest 10 suspects in separate raids

Accused include political party workers and target killers

KARACHI: Ten suspects, including political party workers, were apprehended during raids conducted by the police and Rangers in separate parts of the city on Monday.

A political party worker, identified as Waheed alias Mullah, was arrested during a raid conducted by the police in Shah Faisal Colony area. The suspect, said to be affiliated with Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) - London, has been accused of being a close aide of the party's 'hardcore criminal' Farhan Shabbir alias Farhan Mullah.

According to police officials, the arrested suspect had been involved in targeted killings of three Sunni Tehreek workers - Kamran Qadri, Khalid Mairaj and Shahab Hameed - in Shah Faisal Colony area. He has also allegedly been involved in other cases of murder and extortion. Cases against him were registered while further investigation is under way.

Five 'bank robbers' detained during raids in Karachi

The paramilitary force claimed to have arrested nine suspects during raids in separate parts of the metropolis. According to the Rangers spokesperson, four suspects were arrested during raids conducted in Saeedabad and Nazimabad.

The suspects were identified as Zeeshan alias Shani Kala, Babar Niazi alias Mukhtar, Shoaib Rana alias Dunbar and Shahzad Hafeez alias Kala. According to the Rangers spokesperson, the suspects have been affiliated with MQM-London. The suspects were involved in land grabbing, bank robberies, extortion and other crimes, the spokesperson said.

Two more suspects, identified as Sohail and Rashid Ali, were arrested during raids in Awami Colony and Khokhrapar localities. The Rangers spokesperson said the suspects were involved in various robberies cases.

The Rangers also arrested an alleged extortionist, Saleem alias Shaka, during a raid in Khokhrapar area. The suspect is accused of being involved in various cases of extortion and robberies.

Separately, two suspected drug peddlers were arrested by the Rangers during raids in Lyari and Pirabad areas. The suspects were identified as Khalid and Nabeel. The Rangers also claimed to have recovered arms, ammunition and narcotics from their possession. The Ranger handed over the custody of the suspects to the police.
