ISLAMABAD:
Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has postponed his much anticipated news conference on Sunday because of a severe backache, his office has announced.

The interior minister was expected to address a crucial presser, sharing his reservations on policies of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leadership. However, he strongly denied reports that he would announce stepping down.

“The minister has been advised complete bed rest due to severe back pain,” read a statement issued by the Interior Ministry. “The press conference will now be held at 5pm on Monday.”

Requesting the media to stop unnecessary speculations on the matter, the communiqué said the postponement of the interior minister’s press talk was caused by his ill health.

Earlier, sources had said the PML-N leaders were trying to convince Nisar not to go for a hard-hitting press conference and refrain from targeting policies of his party’s leadership in handling the situation which led to the mess the party is in today.

Senior PML-N leaders were reportedly trying to convince the interior minister either to call off his press conference or to avoid targeting the party leadership should he feel inclined to go ahead with addressing the media. Knowledgeable quarters said the PM is not happy that the interior minister is not on the forefront in dealing with the ongoing crisis.
