ABBOTTABAD:
Nursing students at the District Headquarters Hospital in Abbottabad went on a strike on Saturday to protest against the non-payment of their stipends for five months.

The protestors stated that the government had allocated Rs5,000 as a stipend for them even as nursing students in other parts of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa receive Rs20,000 as stipend since the tariffs were revised in June 2016.

To make matters worse, they claimed that they had not been paid their stipend for the past five months.

Despite the fact that the issue was raised with the relevant authorities, they said, the matter has yet to be resolved.

They added that repeated requests and news reports had attracted the attention of K-P health secretary who had ordered the Health director general to clear the dues of nursing students as per department rules, but those orders were yet to be cleared by the finance department.
