CTD informs court that efforts being made to investigate missing persons’ cases

KARACHI: The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) informed on Friday a judicial magistrate that a police official has been deputed to conduct investigations into the cases of five unclaimed bodies.

The CTD also submitted that efforts were being made for implementation of court's directions and recommendations regarding missing persons and unidentified bodies.

On July 11, the magistrate, Shahid Soomro, had dismissed police reports seeking closure of investigation into the cases of five unclaimed bodies. The court had also referred the cases to additional inspector general of CTD for reinvestigation.

Police treating missing man’s death as murder

The court had also directed the CTD chief to implement the directions and recommendations to develop a website to locate the relatives of the persons whose bodies were unclaimed and missing persons, inform people about the website through media, depute one police officer at every police station to maintain the record of unclaimed bodies and a working relationship between IOs and the National Database Registration Authority to ensure speedy exchange of necessary details.

On Friday, a CTD official informed the court that Inspector Waseem Shah was deputed to investigate the cases and he will file final investigation report within 10 days.

He also submitted the minutes of a meeting headed by CTD chief on July 17 to implement the directions given by the court.

According to the prosecution, the bodies of five out of around 10 men found shot dead near the Lyari River within the limits of Mauripur police station in the middle of last year were still remained unidentified.
