Officials on contract: ‘Terminations likely this week’
Committee members send a list to the PM containing 70 names.

In compliance with a Supreme Court order, the prime minister might terminate some of the federal government’s 70 contractual employees whose names have been proposed by a committee, officials said.
Establishment Division secretary Abdul Rauf Chaudhry had sent a fresh list of these employees to the PM earlier this week.
Committee members visited the Prime Minister Secretariat on Saturday, including Cabinet Division Secretary Nargis Sethi, Law Secretary Pir Muhammad Masood Chishti, Finance Secretary Dr Waqar Masud Khan and Federal Board of Revenue Chairperson Salman Siddique.
“We have reviewed the relative merit of officers and have forwarded the final summary,” one of the members told The Express Tribune.
“More than two dozen employees are likely to be terminated this week,” an official said.
The list includes the names of both Army Chief Ashfaq Parvez Kayani and Director-General of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Lt-General Ahmad Shuja Pasha.
Other names in different departments include Secretary General Aiwan-i-Sadar Suleman Farooqui and Secretary to the President Malik Asif Hayat in the Presidency. From the Prime Minister Secretariat, the prime minister’s personal secretary Ayesha Ahmed and assistant protocol officer Muhammad Sharif are included, while in the parliament’s list, names include NA Secretariat secretary Karamat Niazi, secretary to the NA Speaker Mirza Talib Javid, legislation joint secretary Latif Qureshi, deputy secretary of the Public Accounts Committee Tariq Bhatti and Kashmir Committee director Sultan Ahmad. The registrar of the Supreme Court Dr Faqir Hussain’s is also on the list.
