PM’s health programme expands to 14 more districts

The national programme is already available in 26 districts

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister’s National Health Programme is all set to expand to 12 districts of Punjab and two more districts of Balochistan.

The health programme is already working in 26 districts to provide free treatment to poor families suffering from chronic diseases.

The two districts of Balochistan include Khuzdar and Qilla Abdullah while the 12 districts in Punjab include Muzaffargarh, Vehari, Lodhran, Multan, Rajanpur, Dera Ghazi Khan, Mianwali, Hafizabad, Bhakkar, Khushab, Bahawalnagar and Bahawalpur.

The 16th steering committee meeting, chaired by Minister of State National Health Services, Regulation and Coordination Saira Afzal Tarar, had recommended the extension.



The meeting was attended by the Secretary and Additional Secretary of NHSRC as well as representative from the PM Secretariat, provincial health department, finance ministry, State Life Insurance Corporation, NADRA and partner organisation.

The meeting was convened to take necessary decisions in the light of the PM’s directives of expanding the health programme all across Pakistan to provide free health insurance to families whose daily income is below Rs200 per day.

The committee gave the final nod to expand the programme across the country in a phased manner.

It also took decisions on the enhancement of beneficiary packages which will be provided to the enrolled beneficiaries during the next phase of the programme.

In the new package the amount has been increased up to Rs3,60,000 for the treatment of chronic diseases.
