MULTAN: A 25-year old man was killed by his brother-in-law on the eve of his wedding on Tuesday night in District Khanewal.

Police said the wedding processional of Muzaffar, a resident of Shrine Sultan Baho, District Jhang, reached Khanewal on Monday evening. Muzaffar came to tie the knot with Afshan, daughter of Naseer. After the conclusion of Nikah ceremony, Bilal, the brother of the bride, killed Muzaffar after the exchange of harsh words on the issue of dowry.

Mushtaq, a neighbour, said the family of the groom examined the dowry given by the bride’s family to their daughter. They found certain household appliances missing in the dowry and demanded money for those things on which Bilal got infuriated and killed Muzaffar.

However, Sughra, a guest in the wedding ceremony, said the girl’s family demanded pre-settled money in exchange for their daughter’s wedding and when the groom’s family denied and went back on their word, a scuffle erupted between groom and bride’s brother Bilal. Police said the suspect escaped and teams have been dispatched to arrest him.
