The Sindh government has named a new underpass and a flyover after slain leaders of the Pakistan People's Party.
It announced on Tuesday that the Drigh Road underpass has been named after Munawar Hussain Soharwardi and the Manzil Pump flyover on Indus Highway after Nasir Baloch.
The underpass and flyover have been renamed to pay tribute to the two leaders’ struggle for democracy.
"The two leaders worked rigorously for the restoration of democracy with former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto," a government statement read.
Karachi gets three new underpasses, flyovers
Nasir Baloch was active during the times of MRD (Movement for the Restoration of Democracy), which was a multiparty anti-Zia alliance formed in 1981 and headed by the PPP. He was arrested in Karachi under the charges of facilitating Tipu, Jamal and Arshad in the hijacking of a PIA plane and hanged in 1984.
Soharwardi was a close aide of Bhutto and a spokesperson for Bilawal House. He was gunned down by unidentified men in June 2004 near Guru Mandir, Karachi.
