A man was killed and 17 others, including eight personnel of the Frontier Corps (FC), injured in a remote controlled explosion about 530km from Quetta on Friday.
According to official sources, an improvised explosive device (IED) had been planted on a motorbike parked in the busy Chitakan bazaar of Panjgur district. It was detonated by remote control when an FC vehicle on routine patrol passed by.
As a result, ten civilians and eight security personnel received splinter wounds. Police and security forces cordoned off the area and shifted the injured to a nearby hospital, where one of the injured, identified as Abdul Hameed, succumbed to his injuries before receiving medical aid.
Sources at District Headquarters Hospital, Panjgur informed that two FC personnel who received serious wounds were later shifted to Quetta for specialized treatment. One injured civilian identified as Asad Qadir is in critical condition, while the rest are out of danger.
Ubaidullah Khan, Inspector General of FC, strongly condemned the blast and extending his sympathies to the injured said, “Those involved in such terror activities have nothing to do with any struggle for the rights of Balochistan and are playing in the hands of foreign elements.”
