ISLAMABAD:
A man was killed as he was getting a haircut in a barber’s shop in Bhara Kahu on Monday evening.

Police officials said that Haji Muhammad Anwar, aged between 60 to 70 years, was sitting in the barber’s chair when unidentified armed men travelling in a car shot at him. Anwar was shot four times and died on the spot.

Police said that the gunmen fled after killing the old man and were still at large when this report was filed.

A police officer, meanwhile, said that they had yet to determine the motive behind the targeted attack. Anwar’s body was later shifted to the Polyclinic hospital for an autopsy.

Student commits suicide

A student of engineering at a public university was found dead in his hostel room on Monday. Police, however, have termed the death to be a suicide. Muhammad Hassan, a student of systems engineering at the Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences (PIEAS) in Nilore, had hanged himself by fastening the rope to an iron rack fixed on the wall and a noose around his neck.

Officials said that the body appeared to be at least two-three days old. Moreover, the dorm room, where Hassan lived alone, had been locked reportedly since Friday evening. On Monday, when students living in adjacent rooms noticed a foul stench emanating from the room, they told the hostel’s administration about it.

When the hostel administration broke into the room, they found the dead student hanging, police said.
