Police continue crackdown against criminal elements
The suspects were involved in 242 different criminal offences
LAHORE:
Lahore Police claimed to have arrested 199 members of 82 gangs in June. They also recovered cash and valuables worth over Rs11.1 million and returned the same to the rightful owners. Police said the accused were involved in 242 different cases.
During a crackdown against illegal weapons in the city, police recovered four Kalashnikovs, 27 rifles, 20 guns, 376 pistols, one knife and 50,888 bullets, arrested 440 suspects and registered 430 cases against them.
During a crackdown against drugs, police arrested 485 suspects and recovered 19 kilogrammes of heroin, 250 kilogrammes of hashish, 16 kilogrammes of opium and 8,446 bottles of liquor from their custody. During action against gambling, 437 suspects were arrested and 123 cases were registered. In crackdown against prostitution dens, police arrested 151 suspects and registered 39 cases.

Police also claimed to have arrested 24 proclaimed offenders of category A, 78 of B-category and 854 court absconders. In June, 333 cases against one-wheeling, 319 kite flying, 52 aerial firing, 28 beggars act, 950 price control act and 35 against Loudspeakers Act.
DIG Operations Dr Haider Ashraf has issued directives to police officers to hasten their efforts to curb street crimes. He said Lahore police were using all available resources to protect life and property of citizens. No complaint of extortion, target killing and organised gang was received.
