LAHORE:

A full bench of the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday adjourned hearing on a petition challenging presidential pardon to interior minister Rehman Malik till April 29.

Earlier, the federal law officer sought time to file the reply. The petition was filed by Imtiaz Rashid Qureshi, the Save Judiciary Committee media adviser.

He said that the LHC had restored the sentence that was earlier awarded to Malik by an accountability court.

He said Malik instead of filing an appeal against it in the Supreme Court, directly approached the president. He said that the president had pardoned Malik by exercising his power unlawfully. He said that the remission had been made in violation of the set procedure for such a pardon or remission under the Constitution. He requested the court to restore Malik’s sentence and set aside the notification of the presidential pardon.
